I have paint on elbows, knuckles, my shirt and my in my hair, but I THINK I kind of did it. I think I got it all together for A Vintage Gathering.
We loaded up the truck earlier tonight to get a leg up on the set up and this is what we sat in for an hour.
An overpass looking over MILES of brake lights. We didn't get NEAR the sale. Not even close. We headed home and I tackled my next task.
My next task is getting ready for a very ill-timed and somewhat cursed youth group trip that I am the chaperon for with my kids. I wrote the youth group trip on my calender MONTHS back and thought that they left July 31st, but it turns out to be July 30th....the second day of A Vintage Gathering and potentially the busiest day. So, my heart started pounding & my eyes glazed over and recognizing the dazed look, my husband and daughter said if I worked it Friday night, they'd do the Saturday shift while my son and I started our drive to Yucaipa, CA. I stared at them for 20 seconds with no words. Nothing could come out. My head was trying to take that all in. I hadn't started out a chaperon even. At the last minute I tossed my name in and I figured these kind people would surely recognize I might not be the best fit, but I was incorrect and I will be the youth group chaperon for 8 days. Really.
In the meantime, the youth group leader that has run this show for 23 years came down with shingles, she and her husband had to back out and I have been told I will be one of the drivers of a 12 passenger van. It just gets better daily. Today was food shopping at Costco and the total was 1162.00! These kids can EAT. One of the other chaperons said "We feed them all day long. It's like the Alcatraz prisoners...keep 'em fat & sassy. They'll work longer if they are fed well!". I hope this is true. I hope we can keep up with the cooking!
(That is 2 FULL carts and one flat cart. FULL. To the top. Oh DEAR. )
So...I have lists the length of my arm & reminders all over the house. "Youth Group" list consisting of magazines, iPod charger, cot, sleeping bag, Breathe Right strips, camera and "A Vintage Gathering" list consisting of change, tape, staples, hammer, tent, clothing line, wicker chairs and candles". We can do this. We CAN do this. But the best news is....I am next to the cow at the sale again!
I went out last weekend to get the creative juices flowing & to get a little girl time. Four ladies, one car trunk...every husband's dream. I went down to Salem and visited "Serendipity Vintage Furnishings". I found a hot pink birdcage for my daughter's room, a red spotted mushroom ring for my art space and lots of smaller goodies. This shop is SO well laid out and made me want another shop for about 5 seconds.
This chair wanted to come home with me so badly. Again, I am sure my husband is relieved we didn't have the room.
We visited several other shops where I found back issues of Home Companion, more birdcages, vintage tickets to local railroads, concert venues, etc and blue mason jars to make candle holders with for our S'mores campfire and twilight sale tomorrow night.
I have reached the stage for this weekend's sale that is similar to a wedding. I've done what I can do...it will be just fine. I really wanted to have the "right stuff" for the people trickling down from The Barn House sale. So many incredible vendors there this sale and some friends I am dying to go visit....but alas...I will be driving a big white van down Interstate 5. First stop...Northern California and we all sleep in one big room. I can do this. I got the essentials as far as I am concerned.
I am officially old. I am one snoring, leg cramping & wide-awake woman.
I can do this....
Come on down and join us Friday and Saturday. All info is on the link at the top! It's going to be a GOOD time!
Good luck! You are a brave, brave woman! .. and an awesome mom. :)
