I am working, working, working. I need to get half my basement and garage INTO the shop by Saturday for the BIRTHDAY PAR-TAY! Am I excited? Oh no...not at all.
I have painted bedside tables, frames, I have glued birds, stamped cards, made glass slides, finished the latest batch of children's book magnets, spot treated, adhered, decoupaged and so many other processes that might possibly have made me slightly giddy with the fumes alone.
Tomorrow I order baked goods. I think Saint Cupcake is the winner...maybe? (I will NOT bake...I am working on that balance thing...other people DO bake and we will leave that to THEM).
I have hung the paint by number scores, made Valentine's (only 25 left to go!), places some orders (I am flush out of bubble gums cigs!).
I was able to do all of this because today the store was DEAD. Gorgeous outside....quiet inside. I thought MLK Day could surprise me......but no. Just quiet. All good though because I had so much to go through.
Here is the Pic-O-Rama for the Day.
Love this new little velvet boudoir chair.
So it IS sunny as all get out...believe me...I am half blinded every time I look up at the door, but it's also COLD and windy. The nights are insane. I know I could never live in Alaska (wait...it was 50 degrees in Fairbanks this week...20 degrees higher than us some days!!!) or Chicago....that wind and chill just GETS me. It's possible that this great old house might need some insulation. We were so excited when we scored this house (we were 5th in line until the DAY of Escrow!).....then the first day over 65 came along and it was a sauna. Then came the first night under 25...we could see our breath in the upstairs rooms. I wish I were kidding. I think the contractors kind of overlooked the insulation aspect....probably knowing 6 fools would be out there waiting to place offers in the 50 degree spring weather in the NE Portland hot market of 2005. Ahhh...we DO love this but home, but WOW.
I am going to continue crafting, cleaning, scrubbing, ironing and painting for the Big Birthday Party this Saturday! If you are local and NOT on themailing list, the party is 11:00-6:00 this Saturday the 24th. We will have mimosas, cake, cupcakes and SALES!!!
JOHN is out of town so the kids and I are waiting patiently for yet another major appliance to break, the dog to break loose and run 15 blocks while I am chasing in mismatched pajamas during school drop-off time, the car to start knocking or some other delightful tom foolery. Really...it's as if the gods know when he leaves and they rub their hands together and say "Ohhhhh yeahhhhh....watch THIS...it's gonna be GOOD". We are one hot mess without that guy.
So, wish us luck here at The Hollands......and Happy Almost Tuesday to you! I will be tuned in to watch history in the making tomorrow. No matter your political beliefs...I believe there is so much excitement in knowing that we are making HISTORY and we can in good faith tell children..."you can be ANYTHING you wish to be". As a mother, that alone is awe inspiring. I am not lying to those cute little suckers when I say "You can do it!".
